This doesn't really need a wish; this can be done with CSS3 attribute selectors to put an icon next to the external link. You can add icons to link to all sort of links and filetypes. Not everyone will benefit as it will depend on their browser, but examples of the css syntax are shown below and just require you to have uploaded an appropriate icon to a suitable location and provide the link in the css:
